Srinagar, Sept 6 (GNS): Normal life limped back to normalcy on Monday as businesses opened partially and traffic started plying in Kashmir Valley, five days after Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani passed away. Restrictions were eased on Sunday evening and were re-imposed in a few parts of the old city today and later eased again.

Reports reaching GNS said that markets and shops opened in the business hub of Lal Chowk and elsewhere except downtown parts, while public transport also resumed in many parts.

In Nowhatta, Hawal and Eidgah side, the shops were mostly closed while most of them on Rainawari and Khanyar side opened today.

Report from south Kashmir said that shops and transport were open in Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian and most closed in Kulgam.

Authorities imposed a security and communication clampdown across Kashmir Valley soon after Syed Ali Geelani’s death on Wednesday evening. Roads were barricaded and key streets sealed to restrict the movement of people. Telephony and internet services were snapped except that of lesser-used Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. The telephone services  were restored after three days along with boardband services of telecom companies other than BSNL.(GNS)
