Handwara, July 20: A 27-year-old youth lost his life after suffering an electric shock in the Malabagh area of Qaziabad in Kralgund Sub-Division of Handwara on Monday evening.

Official sources said the deceased has been identified as Tawseef Ahmad Kaboo, son of Ghulam Nabi Kaboo, a resident of Malabagh village.

According to officials, the incident occurred when Tawseef went to switch on a water pump installed near the Pohru River, close to his residence. During the process, he reportedly came into contact with an exposed electric wire and suffered a severe electric shock, leaving him trapped at the spot.

Neighbours rushed to his aid and rescued him before shifting him to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.

After completing medico-legal formalities, including a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances leading to the electrocution. [KNT]
