20 Grams of Suspected Contraband Recovered During Naka Checking at Jeel Bridge; NDPS Case Registered, Investigation Underway
BARAMULLA, AUGUST 10: Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown against drug trafficking and substance abuse, with police personnel apprehending two persons and recovering 20 grams of a brown sugar-like substance during naka checking in the Baramulla area.
According to police, the action was carried out at the Jeel Bridge area of Baramulla, where a naka was established as part of ongoing efforts to curb the transportation and distribution of narcotic substances.
During the checking, police intercepted a Maruti Swift car bearing registration number JK05P-7750. The occupants of the vehicle were subjected to a search, following which suspected contraband was recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Mohd Saleem Qureshi, son of Mohd Ashraf Qureshi, a resident of Nambla, Uri, who was driving the vehicle, and Aijaz Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, also a resident of Nambla, Uri.
Police said that 10 grams of the brown sugar-like substance was recovered from Mohd Saleem Qureshi, while 07 grams was recovered from Aijaz Ahmad Mir.
Both individuals were arrested, while the recovered substance was seized in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure. The vehicle involved in the case has also been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
A case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, and further investigation has been initiated to establish the source of the recovered substance and identify any possible links in the wider drug network.
Police said the latest action forms part of its sustained campaign against narcotics and drug-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and substance abuse, stating that strict legal action will continue against individuals found involved in the illegal trade, transportation and distribution of narcotic substances.
Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law-enforcement agencies in efforts to prevent the spread of the drug menace.
