Media asked to verify credentials of party representatives before publishing statements to prevent misinformation and ensure accuracy
Srinagar, Aug 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday issued an official media circular requesting all print, electronic and digital media organisations to seek comments, reactions and official statements only from representatives authorised by the party leadership.
The circular, issued by Adv. Sajid Yousuf Shah, State Co-Media Incharge, BJP J&K, stated that the party has observed that comments and media bytes are being sought from individuals who are not authorised to speak on its behalf. It said such practices create unnecessary confusion, misrepresent the party’s official stand and have the potential to mislead the public.
According to the circular, only the BJP’s designated State Spokespersons, State Media Incharges and other representatives specifically authorised by the party leadership are competent to issue official statements, comments or reactions on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Jammu and Kashmir.
The party urged editors, bureau chiefs, correspondents and media organisations to verify the authorisation of party representatives through the BJP J&K Media Department or the designated State Spokespersons before publishing or broadcasting any statement purportedly representing the party.
The advisory said that such verification would help ensure accuracy, uphold responsible journalism and prevent the dissemination of unauthorised views.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship with the media, the BJP J&K expressed hope for the continued cooperation of media organisations in ensuring authentic and verified dissemination of the party’s official position.(KNC)
