Srinagar, Oct 18: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has abolished two temporarily created posts of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) in Jammu and Kashmir with retrospective effect from August 1, 2026.
According to an order, the abolished positions comprise one cadre post and one ex-cadre post in the Jammu and Kashmir segment of the Indian Forest Service (IFS).
The decision has been taken on the recommendation of the Joint Cadre Authority and follows an earlier ministry order dated August 7, 2025, the latest order stated.
The two posts were initially created on a temporary basis for two years with effect from August 1, 2022, under an order issued by the ministry on January 12, 2022. Their tenure was subsequently extended by one year, from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, through an order dated August 28, 2024.
The ministry later extended the posts beyond July 31, 2025, before deciding to abolish both positions with effect from August 1, 2026.
The order is limited to the two temporarily created PCCF-level positions and does not provide for the abolition of the regular Principal Chief Conservator of Forests establishment in Jammu and Kashmir.
