Rajouri, Feb 3: Chief Education Officer (CEO) Rajouri conducted a surprise inspection of several government schools within Rajouri Municipality to assess regularity, punctuality and overall work culture, during which serious academic, administrative and hygiene-related lapses were found, prompting strict action against erring staff.

According to an official communiqué issued by the Office of the Chief Education Officer, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the inspection was carried out on February 3, 2026, to ensure effective functioning of educational institutions.

During the inspection of Girls High School Jawaharnagar, the CEO observed serious irregularities in academic planning, administration and hygiene management. The overall functioning of the school was found unsatisfactory, with no visible academic planning and homework not being properly checked. Mass casual leave and continuity of leave among teaching staff were also noticed.

All staff members of the school have been directed to submit their explanations through ZEO Rajouri within two days, failing which stern action under rules will be initiated. The Second Incharge of the school has been instructed to immediately improve academic and hygienic conditions.

Additionally, the NYC posted in the school has been directed to resume duties with immediate effect, failing which her case will be referred to the Director, NYC, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, for further action. The Headmaster has also been warned to manage the day-to-day affairs of the institution properly or face strict disciplinary action.

At PM-SHRI Boys Middle School Jawaharnagar, the inspection revealed extremely unhygienic conditions. Despite adequate staff strength, the academic performance was found to be poor, with most teachers remaining on casual leave. One teacher was found on Extra Ordinary Leave without any sanction order, while the Physical Education Teacher was continuously on deputation.

All staff members of the school have been asked to explain their position through ZEO Rajouri within two days. The Head of Institution (HOI) has been directed to immediately improve the academic and hygienic conditions, failing which the entire staff of the school will be replaced.

Meanwhile, at Middle School Ward No. 08, Rajouri, it was observed that out of 82 enrolled students, only 53 were present. Five staff members were found basking in the sun, while the whereabouts of three others were unknown. The Mid-Day Meal records were not maintained and the academic environment was found to be poor.

Taking serious note of the lapse, three staff members—Yasmeen Akhter, Nosheen Akhter and Sofia Akhter—have been placed under suspension with immediate effect. The Head of Institution has been directed to submit an explanation regarding the mismanagement within two days through the concerned ZEO. The ZEO Rajouri has also been instructed to stop the salary of the entire staff of the school with immediate effect.

The Chief Education Officer Rajouri reiterated that negligence, indiscipline and compromise on academic standards will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against defaulters to ensure quality education in government schools. (KNC)
