Srinagar: Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Sanjay Kumar, on Tuesday reviewed the education landscape in Jammu and Kashmir and directed the scrapping of Class 11 board examinations to promote holistic and quality education across government schools.

Chairing a high-level meeting at SKICC Srinagar, Kumar emphasized the need for comprehensive improvements, including infrastructure upgrades, skill-based learning, and enhanced enrolment in government schools. He urged officials to ensure that no student drops out before completing Class 12 and stressed the importance of pre-primary education and large-scale enrolment in kindergarten.

The review, attended by senior officers from the School Education Department, JKBOSE, SCERT, and other agencies, also focused on implementing the NEP-2020 curriculum, teacher capacity building, digital interventions such as DIKSHA and PM e-VIDYA, and the progress of schemes like Samagra Shiksha and PM SHRI.

Highlighting the need for coordinated action, Kumar called on all stakeholders to strengthen governance, address infrastructural gaps, and make government schools the primary centres for learning and career development. He also discussed the proposal for establishing a Regional CBSE Office in J&K.

The meeting saw participation from top officials, including NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani, CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh, NCTE Chairperson Pankaj Arora, NIOS Chairperson Akhilesh Mishra, and PARAKH CEO Indrani Bhaduri.
