Srinagar, Feb 10: The Drug Control Authority, Anantnag, on Tuesday carried out a surprise inspection drive across various medical sale outlets in Seer Hamdan, KP Road Anantnag and nearby localities, during which six medical shops were sealed for violating prescribed drug norms.

Officials told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, that during the inspections, samples of medicines manufactured by lesser-known pharmaceutical firms were lifted and sent for laboratory testing to assess their quality and compliance with standards laid down under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

In Seer Hamdan area, three medical establishments were ordered to suspend sales after authorities detected serious lapses, including failure to maintain mandatory records of Schedule H1 drugs. These medicines, comprising select antibiotics and other sensitive drugs, are subject to strict documentation norms to prevent misuse and illegal distribution.

Sources informed that overall, six medical sale establishments in the district were sealed for multiple violations, such as improper record maintenance and non-compliance with regulatory guidelines.

During the drive, chemists were also sensitised about the need to procure medicines strictly from authorised distributors and ensure accurate documentation of purchases and sales. Emphasis was laid on adherence to norms governing storage and dispensing of Schedule H1 medicines.

Officials asserted that similar enforcement drives will continue across the district to ensure regulated availability of medicines and to safeguard public health. The authority reiterated that strict action will be taken against erring establishments to curb irregularities in the pharmaceutical trade. (KNC)
