Srinagar Eight faculty members from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar have been featured in the prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientists List 2025, compiled by Stanford University, USA. The recognition is considered one of the most credible indicators of global research excellence.

The faculty members who secured their place in the list are Prof. M.F. Wani (Mechanical Engineering), Prof. M.A. Shah (Physics), Prof. Bashir Ahmed Mir (Civil Engineering), Dr. Neeraj Gupta (Electrical Engineering), Dr. Vijay Kumar (Physics), Dr. Sandeep Samantaray (Civil Engineering), Dr. Pravan Kumar Katiyar (Metallurgical & Materials Engineering), and Dr. Sandeep Rathee.

The rankings are based on the Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators, prepared by Prof. John P.A. Ioannidis and his team at Stanford. The latest version, published on September 19, evaluates scientists on parameters such as citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted impact, and field-specific percentiles across 22 scientific domains and 174 subfields. It uses data updated to August 1, 2025, and includes citation records until the end of 2024.

Congratulating the faculty members, Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia said the achievement was a matter of pride for the institute. “This recognition not only highlights the individual excellence of our faculty but also strengthens NIT Srinagar’s global standing in academics and research,” he said.

Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman also lauded the recognition, describing it as a reflection of the institute’s growing research culture. “The inclusion of eight of our faculty members in this global list demonstrates the quality of our academic environment and will inspire students and young researchers to pursue innovative work,” he said.

The Top 2% Scientists List, jointly published by Stanford University and Elsevier, is widely acknowledged as a benchmark for evaluating research impact and academic contribution worldwide.
