SRINAGAR: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially opened the admission process for its January 2026 cycle, offering a wide array of undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma programmes through distance and online learning modes.
Prospective students can now apply via the University’s national website or the dedicated admission portal for various credentials, including certificates and PG diplomas. The deadline for submitting online admission forms for this cycle is January 31, 2026, while the window for re-registration for continuing learners will close on January 15, 2026.
The University has significantly expanded its academic portfolio this year by introducing approximately 60 new programmes. Notable additions include Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUP) across diverse disciplines such as Commerce, Economics, History, Biochemistry, and Social Work. New postgraduate offerings have also been launched in specialised fields, including MSc Geography, Geo-Informatics, Applied Statistics, and Renewable Energy.
AH Rizvi, Regional Director of the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, has urged aspirants to complete their applications well ahead of the closing date. He also issued a stern warning regarding security, advising candidates to retain their login credentials securely and to be wary of admission-related scams.
“Candidates should not respond to fraudulent calls or messages requesting admission fees through QR codes, WhatsApp, or social media platforms,” Dr Rizvi stated. He clarified that IGNOU only accepts payments through its official, secure online portals.
Applicants are advised to exercise caution and ensure all details are filled in accurately on the official application forms to avoid future discrepancies. -(KL)
