Reports reaching GNS said that the continuous outpouring for last few days is giving sleepless nights to the residents of many low-lying areas including; Walkul, Gundmachhar and Khann Chakk.

The locals while talking to GNS said that the water-level in the nearby flowing nallah Macchar is alarmingly going up. “If the situation continues we will have no option other than to leave our places.”

Meanwhile, when contacted, SDM Lolab Aijaz Ahmad told GNS over phone that he has took the matter into consideration and proper follow-up will be taken on priority basis.

“I will ensure that the Irrigation department opens up the exit channels of the nallah (Macchhar) as soon as possible”, the official said.

“We also had faced a somewhat similar situation in Chandigam as well whereupon the flood channels were thrown up resulting in subsequent recession of the water-levels in the area”, the official said.

In the meantime, SHO Lolab alongside BDC Chairman also visited the areas to assess the situation.

The visiting officials assured the locals of all possible help while urging them “not to panic.” (GNS)
