July 05: In a continued drive against social evils and illegal activities, J&K Police in Sopore have arrested two gamblers and seized cash along with playing cards from their possession.
Acting on credible information, J&K Police conducted a raid at Botingoo in the jurisdiction of Police Post Warpora and apprehended two persons involved in illegal card gambling, while some others managed to flee from the spot. The arrested persons have been identified as Tahir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir, and Ferooz Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla, both residents of Malpora, Warpora, Sopore. During the raid, stake money amounting to ₹5,050 along with playing cards was recovered and seized on the spot.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 168/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigation is underway. Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the other persons who fled from the spot.
Person found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per the law. General public is requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
