Kupwara : In a significant development, Kupwara Police has registered the first E-FIR in the district, marking a step towards enhanced accessibility and digital policing. “On 05-03-2025, a complaint was received via email from Gh. Nabi Bhat, son of Haji Assadullah Bhat, resident of Baghaat Colony, Bumhama, Kupwara, stating that while he was not at home, one [name withheld] allegedly set fire to his wooden shed and cow shed,” reads a statement issued to news agency Kashmir Bulletin. “Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it could spread further. The complainant alleged that this was a deliberate attempt to cause damage to his property.” “Upon receiving the complaint, the matter was registered in the relevant register. Matter was preliminary verified and found true. On 06-03-2025, the complainant signed the official copy and accordingly FIR No. 60/2025 was lodged under relevant sections of law,” reads the statement. “The investigation has been initiated to ascertain the facts and take necessary legal action.” The e-FIR, the statement asserted, marks a major step in digital policing, making the complaint registration process more efficient and accessible for citizens.
