Srinagar, June 23 (GNS): Jammu and National Conference on Tuesday said that there is no mention of development in the to-do-list of government vis-à-vis Kashmir, saying the valley of Kashmir has become a byword of widespread and inescapable poverty, unemployment, development deficit and administrative inertia.
Addressing a meet of party functionaries, officer bearers here at Nawa e Subha, Party’s Provincial Vice President Muhammad Syed Akhoon said that the incumbent government has made no effort to alleviate the concerns of the people of J&K. Expressing his disappointment he said the month of June is nearing an end and people are yet to see the administration kick off any substantial development activity across the Kashmir division.  “So far the government has only undertaken patch work in the name of construction that too has been confined to few areas. It goes without saying that most roads, and arterials of Kashmir continue to remain in terrible condition; drains, sewage lines and canals are yet to get their annual cleaning.  Fate of various under construction vital roads, sewage treatment plants, community recreational centers, schools and primary and secondary care hospitals have been put into a limbo. All the major routes connecting Srinagar to major district headquarters and tourists destinations are dotted with potholes.”
“The administration has miserably failed the people in their hour of need. The response of the administration towards COVID-19 induced economic meltdown has been disappointing.  With each passing day the woes of the artisans, agriculturists, transporters, hawkers, and laborers continue to deepen.  Government has also failed on generating employment opportunities; the much touted large scale employment extravaganza is yet to see the light of day. Contractual, daily wagers, and need based employed continue to suffer due to government apathy. On the contrary, we only hear of imprudent diktats emanating from government quarters that only add insult to the injury,” he added.
Party’s Provincial secretary Showkat Mir, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq Ahmed also addressed the meeting. They expressed concern over the prevailing situation and said that the incumbent administration has failed from lockdown to unlocking saying the COVID-19 cases are increasing despite having the strongest shutdown in place. “Now that the lockdown is being unlocked the government is mute on the aftermath of COVID-19 induced lockdown and its burgeoning effect on the economy. Administration is clueless on economic conundrum, laborers crises. People are baffled as to where they should get their issues redressed from. There is no accountability, no development,” the duo said.
Meanwhile Amirakadal Block functionaries presided by block president Rafiq Ilahi held a meeting urging the administration to release all political leaders who continue to remain incarcerated in their homes. The meet was attended by block functionaries, women’s wing and YNC functionaries. The functionaries demanded immediate release of all incarcerated leaders including party’s provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani. On the occasion the functionaries paid tributes to party’s senior block functionary Haji Ghulam Qadir Makroo who passed away a few days ago. The participants prayed for eternal repose to the departed soul. The participants also expressed unison with the grief stricken family in their hour of grief. (GNS)
