Srinagar: The Aam Aadmi Party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit has been rocked by a full-blown revolt, with a group of its own leaders and volunteers firing off an explosive letter to the party’s top brass in Delhi, demanding nothing less than a purge at the top.

Addressed to National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, National General Secretary Sandeep Pathak, and senior leader Imran Hussain, the letter, a copy of which lies with Alfaaz – The Words, paints a damning picture of the current state leadership under Mehraj Malik. The signatories accuse him of “compromising the party’s integrity,” making “scandalous appointments,” and surrounding himself with figures alleged to have “dubious reputations and dangerous political links.”

The allegations, if true, are staggering. The letter claims Malik’s inner circle includes individuals with past criminal accusations, controversial political affiliations, and even those alleged to be “on the payroll of rival agencies.” The letter accuses some leaders of ‘wielding undue influence in party affairs’, describing some as a “black mole” with damaging links), alleges some to be working for “opposing political influences”, some of blackmail in a past incidents and some others of facing serious legal allegations.

The rebels allege that Malik’s decisions have sidelined genuine volunteers and left the party’s J&K cadre demoralised ahead of crucial by-elections on two seats. The rebels have demanded for an immediate removal of the five named individuals, a final warning to Malik in a closed-door meeting, and a hard reset of the state unit’s leadership.

“Failure to act decisively will destroy the party’s credibility in Jammu and Kashmir,” the letter warns, adding that loyal workers are “losing hope” and the public’s trust is “slipping away.”
