Srinagar, Aug 20: Police on Saturday claimed to have cracked a grenade lobbing incident on minority camp at Gopalpora Chadoora area in Budgam in which one person was “seriously” injured on August 15.
Member of a minority community Krishna Kumar was injured in the grenade blast and subsequently police had registered a case (FIR number 147/2022) under relevant sections of law at Police Station Chadoora and launched investigation.
“During the course of investigation one small CCTV footage was collected which revealed that two scooty born suspects are involved in the grenade lobbing incident,” a police spokesperson said in a statement to GNS, adding, “Many suspects were picked up for questioning and during further investigation, police received an information that one individual namely Sahil Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani of Tangnar Kralpopra Chadoora is involved in the incident.”
The individual, he said, was arrested and during his sustaining questioning he “admitted that he along with main conspirator and hybrid (militant) namely Altaf Farooq alias Amir son of Farooq Ahmad Rather of Tangnar Kralpora are involved” in the case.
“Accordingly raid was conducted and the arrest of the individual was effected. During the search of the individual posters of (militant) organisation TRF along with some incriminating material and one hand grenade was recovered,” the police spokesperson said, adding, “The scooty (No.JK01 AH 7426) used in the commission of crime has also been seized in the instant case.”
Amir, he said, has also been found “involved in the illegal transfer of money, receipt and distribution of funds” from the militant organization Lashkar-e-Toiba.
“The investigation of the case is at its earlier stage and more arrests and recoveries are expected,” he said, adding, “The grenade was thrown at the behest of the directions of Lashkar-e-Toiba (TRF) to create the atmosphere of fear among the society.” (GNS)
