Srinagar, Aug 19: The foundation stone for the upgradation and beautification of Mirza Kamil Sahib Chowk in Zadibal was laid by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a project aimed at improving the long-pending civic and traffic-related issues at the busy junction.

The project, costing ₹128.7 lakh, has been taken up for the decongestion, beautification and better regulation of the Chowk, which is named after Mirza Kamil Sahib Astan.

The upgradation is aimed at improving the overall organisation and appearance of the junction and addressing longstanding concerns regarding congestion and civic management in the area.

The project is expected to give the Chowk a more organised appearance while improving its functioning as an important junction in Zadibal.

The foundation stone was laid today by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Health Minister Sakina Itoo and Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani.

The project is being viewed as part of efforts to improve civic infrastructure and public spaces in Zadibal and address demands raised by residents for better regulation and beautification of the area. [KNT]
