Jats, West Pakistani Refugees, Gorkhas, Pony Walas Among In New List
Srinagar: The government on Saturday expanded the social caste list by including 15 new classes under the J&K Reservation Act. The list has now grown to 42 and the new entrains include Waghey (Chopan), Ghirath/BhatilChang Community, Jat Community, Saini Community, Markabans/PonyWalas, Sochi Community, Christian Biradari (Converted from Hindu Valmiki), Sunar/Swarankar, Teeli (Hindu Teeli along with already existing Muslim Teli, Perna/Kouro(Kaurav), Bojru/DecountlDubdabayBrahmin, Gorkans, Gorkhas, West Pakistani Refugees (excluding SCs) and Acharyas.
The notification has been issued under the orders of Lieutenant Governor in exercise of the powers conferred by first proviso to clause (o) of Section 2 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, and on the recommendations of the Jammu and Kashmir Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission.
The administration has also substituted for the words “Pahari Speaking people (PSP)” or “Pahari Speaking People” wherever appearing, the words “Pahari Ethnic people” in the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules, 2005,
Also, words potters (Kumahars),shoe repairers (working without the aid of machines),Bangies Khakrobes(Sweepers), barbers, washerman and Dooms have been respectively replaced by Kumahars, Mochi, Bangies Khakrobes, Hajjam Atrai, Dhobi, and Dooms (excluding SCs), the notification, a copy of which lies with GNS, added.
