Anantnag, June 8 (GNS): Unknown gunmen shot dead a 35-year-old Sarpanch near in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday afternoon. “Today at about 1800 hours Anantnag police received information about a crime incident in Lokbowan area of Anantnag, where (militants) had fired on a congress Sarpanch. Accordingly senior police officers reached at the crime spot,” a police spokesman said.Officers attending the crime spot learnt that one individual identified as Ajay Pandita (congress Sarpanch) son of Om Kar Nath resident of Lukbawan Anantnag was shot at by the militants near his house.“The injured has received grievous gunshot injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries,” the spokesman said.Dr Majeed Mehrab, medical superintendent GMC Anantnag however told GNS that the sarpanch was brought dead.
