Bandipora, July 6: Halqa Adab Sonawari on Tuesday commemorated an event in remembrance of Ghulam Mohuiddin Hajni under the banner of ‘Youm-e-Mohuiddin Hajni’.
The event was attended by artists, writers and scholars from across the Valley.
In the first session of the event, Professor Shaad Ramzan delivered ‘Hajni Memorial Lecture’. Professor Mohammad Zamaan Azurdah was Chief Guest on the occasion and the session presided over by Professor Naseem Shifai. President Adbee Markaz Kamraaz Mohammad Amin Bhat also presided over the session briefly.
In his speech, Professor Shaad Ramzan highlighted the challenges faced by Kashmiri language as a subject and hinted at comprehensive amendments regarding it according to new educational policy.
The other notable personalities, talking on the topic, included Ghulam Nabi Shakir, Masood Shadaab, Zahoor Haiegami and Shahbaz Hakbari. The session was anchored by Azhar Hajni.
The second session was presided over by Ghulam Nabi Aatish with Director Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar Dr Naseeb Singh Manhas and ADDC Bandipora Afsar Ali Khan among those accompanying him.
In the session, Dr Aziz Hajni was felicitated with ‘Khilat-e-Hajni’ award for the year 2020, for his unparalleled contributions to Kashmiri language.
The award also saw the felicitation of Vice-Chancellor Central University of Kashmir Professor Mehraj-ud-Din for establishing the Department of Kashmiri at the varsity.
A keynote address was delivered during the session by Shakir Shafi and the session was anchored by General Secretary Halqa Adab Sonawari Dr Riyaz-ul-Hassan.
A ‘Mehfil-e-Shayiri’ was organized towards the end of the event, during which nearly two dozen poets who had converged from nook and corner of the valley, read out their poems to the participants. The session was presided over by Shahbaz Hakbari and the services of anchor disposed by Sagar Sarfaraz.
At the inaugural session vice-president Halqa Adab Sonawari Shiekh Ghulam Mohammad delivered the welcome address while the vote of thanks towards the end of the ceremony was delivered by Nazir Javid.
