Says collaborative effort needed to overcome challenges

Kupwara: In a mega public darbar held at Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr Syed Aabid Rasheed, assured the public of a forthcoming positive and visible change in the health sector.

Addressing reporters during the event, Dr Abid, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the people of Kupwara have always been “progressive and nationalistic”. He praised the residents for their inclination towards development and their cooperative spirit for the betterment of the region.

During the public event, attendees raised various issues. The Secretary, H&ME said that while some concerns could be redressed immediately, others might require more time for resolution.

“Such public engagements are an indication of hope of aspirations and expectations that people hold for the government,” he said, adding that the Union Territory government is committed to addressing these concerns.

Assuring a positive and visible change in the health sector, Dr Abid said collaborative effort is needed from both the public and authorities to overcome certain challenges.

He announced plans to visit various health centres in the district to assess their functioning and gain a firsthand understanding of challenges faced by the general public. “We will sit together with the health authorities in the district to understand the problems and issues faced by the general public. There would be a lot of solvable issues,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, the Secretary Health highlighted the potential of Government Medical College Handwara, saying it would be one of the best in the country.

“Students from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as from other parts of the country, are enrolled in the college, and it is expected to grow further in the future,” he informed.

Dr Abid said the health sector should be run properly. “The staff must be deployed efficiently to cater to the needs of the growing population,” he said—(KNO)
