Baramulla, Apr 21: A serious allegation of medical negligence has surfaced from Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, where a visitor claimed that no qualified doctors were present during a medical emergency, leaving untrained interns to handle critical patients alone.

The complainant, in a widely circulated social media post, described the scene as chaotic and dangerous, stating that an intern was seen staring helplessly at an ECG, unable to interpret the results.

Social media post as per news agency JKNS alleged serious medical negligence at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has gone viral, drawing public anger and calls for administrative action.

The user, who said they visited the hospital late Sunday night due to a medical emergency, claimed that no qualified doctors were present and that interns were left alone to handle patients. “One of them was literally staring cluelessly at an ECG, not knowing how to read it,” the user wrote.

The post further alleged that the hospital lacked proper medical attention, accountability, and basic patient care, warning that such lapses could result in fatal consequences. “What if someone’s life depends on that ECG?” the user asked, adding that the incident reminded them of a previous personal tragedy — the death of their mother at the same hospital, which they also blamed on alleged medical negligence.

Tagging prominent political figures and officials including Omar Abdullah, DC Baramulla, Sakina Itoo, and the Office of the LG, the user urged authorities to intervene and ensure that public hospitals operate with accountability and professionalism.

There was no immediate response from GMC Baramulla or the district administration regarding the allegations. (JKNS)
