Srinagar, Nov 3: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has withheld the salaries of three Enforcement Officers following a review of enforcement activities chaired by Commissioner SMC, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, on Monday.
The officers whose salaries have been withheld include Riyaz Ahmad, Enforcement Officer for South Zone; Mujeeb Hussain, West Zone; and Muhammad Yousuf, who oversees East and North Zones.
According to an official order issued by the Joint Commissioner (Administration), SMC, the salaries of the three officers shall remain withheld until further orders.
Sources within the department indicated that the action may be linked to the failure to effectively curb illegal constructions in their respective jurisdictions. They said the unchecked emergence of unauthorised structures could have been among the concerns that prompted the Commissioner to take action against the officers.
The decision was taken pursuant to directions issued during a review meeting of enforcement activities held at SMC office. [KNT]
