Srinagar, Aug 23(GNS):An elderly woman was injured after being attacked by a wild bear in Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.
Officials told GNS that a 65-year-old lady identified as Mubeena Banoo wife of Late Mohd Maqbool Mantoo resident of Darpora Khundoora village of Achabal was attacked by a bear near her residence when she had gone outside.
Locals said the bear suddenly appeared and attacked her, leaving her injured. The woman raised hue and cry following which locals rushed to the spot and rescued her.
The injured lady was immediately evacuated to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for treatment, where her condition is said to be stable.
Meanwhile, locals have urged the Wildlife Department to take immediate steps to prevent such incidents in the area, as movement of wild animals has increased in recent days.(GNS)
