Srinagar, Sep 10 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday hit back at Congress criticism over the singing of the full version of Vande Mataram, saying adherence to the prescribed protocol at official functions is a statutory obligation.
Reacting to Congress objections over the rendition of the national song at the inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah said the issue had been unnecessarily politicised.
He said the law applies across the country and must be followed at government functions, irrespective of which party is in power.
CM Omar also said the National Conference has never adopted Vande Mataram as a party position and would have no objection if a future government decides to change the law.
Calling the controversy an attempt to “make a mountain out of a molehill”, he said his party would fulfil all legal and statutory obligations.(KINS)
