Uri, Dec 16 (GNS): Residents of several villages in the Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are facing persistent difficulties due to poor internet connectivity, severely affecting daily life, education, and access to online services.

The affected villages include Gowalta, Uroosa, Isham, Nawa, and Upper Dardkote, located along the Line of Control (LoC). Locals said that despite the installation of multiple mobile towers by telecom service provider Bharti Airtel, internet services remain unreliable and extremely slow.

Residents told GNS that accessing even basic online platforms such as search engines and educational video services has become a challenge due to weak network signals. Students, in particular, are bearing the brunt, as dependable internet access is essential for downloading study material and attending online academic activities.

Locals further stated that repeated representations to Bharti Airtel officials have so far yielded no tangible improvement. They have now urged the MLA Uri and the district administration to intervene and ensure early resolution of the issue.

Responding to the concerns, an engineer from Bharti Airtel told GNS that a new mobile tower has recently been installed in the upper area of Gowalta village and is awaiting technical upgradation.

He said that temporary network issues may persist in certain areas until the upgradation is completed, adding that the process is expected to be carried out in the coming days. The engineer also maintained that other towers in the region are functioning properly. (GNS)
