Uri, Dec 20 (GNS): MLA Uri, Dr Sajjad Shafi, on Saturday distributed compensation cheques to the families of road accident victims in the Uri constituency. The financial assistance, sanctioned by the Transport Department, was provided to families who lost their loved ones or whose members sustained serious injuries in road accidents.
This marks the first instance of such compensation being formally disbursed in the Uri constituency. The beneficiaries included families affected by accidents in Bhujthala and Garkote, along with one victim from Kalgai, whose accident had occurred in Doda district.
On the occasion, Dr Shafi, as per GNS, expressed sincere gratitude to Transport Secretary Satish Sharma, the Transport Commissioner, and ARTO Baramulla, Mudasir Ahmad Wani, for their support and cooperation in ensuring the timely release of relief to the affected families.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by residents, who described it as a humane and much-needed step towards providing institutional support to families grappling with the aftermath of tragic road accidents. (GNS)
