Srinagar: Three-time MLA and senior National Conference leader Muhammad Akbar Muhammad Lone may have been vocal in the assembly of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir from 2002 to 2018, but he has been a poor performer as a member of the Parliament.

According to PRS Legislative Research, a non-profit organization tracking performance of parliamentarians and legislators, Lone, who represents Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, has asked just five questions from 2019 to 2024 while the average number of questions asked by an MP during this period is 210 and from the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir is 103.

Lone, who attended all sessions of the parliament till 2022 monsoon session, has just participated in six debates while the national average was 46.7 % debates and the state average was 49.4 % debates.

Srinagar-based news agency KNO citing details reported that Lone’s attendance was 41 percent in the Parliament, while the national average is 79 percent and state average is 72 percent.

His predecessor Muzaffar Hussain Baig’s performance as the member of Parliament from 2009 to 2014 was no different. Baig, who represented Baramulla segment in the Lok Sabha, had mere 11 percent attendance, while the national average was 80% and state average was 55%.

In his five-year stint, Baig asked mere 19 questions while the national average for questions was 293 and the state average was 94.

As MP, Baig took part only in three debates in the Parliament, while the national average was 67.1% and the state average was 30.8%.
